Snowkiters’ races on the northen latitudes are very bright: dazzling white snows and colourful cupols of kites, magestic landscapes and crazy speeds of the sportsmen.
For the first time the TOKE race (abbr. of Trans-Onego Kite Enduro) was held on the water area of Onego lake in 2012, and this year “Trans-Onego” has become the concluding stage for the project #SNOWKITERUSSIA2017.
#TOKE is a competition in the format of three days autonomous race on a circular route, with two independent night stops in campaign conditions on the ice of Onego lake.
The track runs through the most picturesque places of Karelia: Besov Nos foreland, island Vasilisin, Kizhi island, Shardon islands, Kondopoga gulf – all in all 250 km on general course.
The teams consisting of two persons, in totally independent mode transport on their own their race and campain equipment through the route.
“Trans-Onego” doesn’t depend on the weather conditions, this lets the participants show their best skills in different wind and temperature conditions, conquering snow drifts if needed, zones of ice ridging and penetration of water through ice cracks.
Last year 31 teams from 7 countries took part in the competition, by the way these were Russians who got the first prise. Will our compatriots consolidate their position this year? This is the season’s intrigue.
This year the TOKE race is going to be held on March 1-5 (1 is the day when the participants arrive, 2-4 are racing days, 5 is the day of their departure).
And before TOKE there will be motor race “From Sea to Sea” on the route Zhiguli Sea – Onego lake.
TOKE starts and finishes in the center of Petrozavodsk, and the weekend is planned as a whole-town celebration - “ONEGO” festival (4 and 5 of March).
Revealing a bit the mystery, we’ll say there is going to be a kite parade, laser show, games, entertainment with northern typical colorite.
We are sure that “Trans-Onego” will be a trully feeric conclusion of the racing season of year 2017.
